Kids love to colour. It is such a simple activity, but such a universally liked one too. Many a harried parent has been afforded a block of quiet time after offering an overactive child some paper and crayons. Dinner outings become more peaceful; trips are less chaotic and parents get some much needed relaxation. Coloring is a wonderful thing, but it is also one more bundle of items to pack when you are going out. The Color Picker Pen, by Jinsu Park, is a fun concept that would keep the kids entertained for quite a while and would inspire discovery and imagination along the way.
The pen has a colour sensor on one end and when the corresponding button is pressed, will pick up the desired colour. The internal RGB (red, green, blue) inks mix to create an exact match, and the pen then draws with the colour you have plucked right from the nature. The primary colours (yellow, magenta, cyan) inside the pen creates the selected combination. It is just like the Photoshop “eyedropper” for real life.
Korean designer Jinsu Park designed a concept pen that adopts the eyedropper tool of Photoshop for real life. The color picker pen enables colors in the environment to be scanned and instantly used for drawing. The sensor detects the color and matches it to the color display, and then the RGB cartridge located within the pen mixes the inks together to create the color that has been scanned.
The pen uses the three inks to form any kind of colour. The colours can be melted to create a warm colour or a cold colour. The colours graduate the amount of each and create the colour the person chose. The pen weighs 98grams and its height is 14cm. It is suitable for all ages as it does not have any dangerous parts. It can be used on any surface. But you cannot use the new colours found in nature and use it later; as there is no storage capacity. The different parts of the Colour Picker Pen are: RGB Colour Sensor; RGB Colour Cartridge; Colour Scan Button and Colour Display. In 2008, Colour Picker Pen won the Red Dot Design Award.
The real world is full of vibrant and beautiful colours that we can imagine. Artists can recreate just about all of those colours with the Colour Picke Pen.
