In order to delete any application from your PC completely, you first need to open Control Panel Add/Remove Programs and then select the desired program which you want to remove. By clicking on ‘Uninstall’, the programs will be removed from the displayed list of the installed programs and will not run on your PC. However, if you face any problem while uninstalling or removing the application, you can boot your system in Safe mode to continue with the process.
Safe mode is basically designed for Windows Operating System in order to enhance troubleshooting, to uninstall the programs, to conduct virus scan for removal of viruses, etc. Uninstalling or the process of removing a program in safe mode is similar as in Windows mode. One should follow the below mentioned steps in order to uninstall programs in safe mode:
-
To initiate this process, you have to close all running programs and then restart your computer. Before the operating system boots, press F8 repeatedly so that you shall see the Windows Advanced Option menu screen. Here, you can scroll down and select safe mode option. Then press enter and log on to safe mode in Windows.
-
Click on Windows “Start” button and select the “Control Panel” option here. Now, Double-click on “Add or Remove Programs if you are using Windows XP to view the program’s window. If you have to delete applications in Windows Vista, then you can click “Program and Features” and click “Uninstall a Program” to open the program’s window.
-
When this new window appears, you can scroll through the program’s window and click on the program you want to delete and click Remove/Uninstall option. Then, you should follow the steps to uninstall that program as the process varies with different programs. Try to select all options which occur while removing or uninstalling the desired program or application from your system.
-
Remove the Programs folder. To do so, click the Windows “Start” button and click “My Computer.” Double-click the “C:” drive or the drive where you have installed the Windows and then, you can double click the program files folder.
-
Locate the folder of the program you uninstalled and right-click it. Click “Delete.” Empty the recycle bin and restart your computer normally to complete the uninstall process. In order to delete it permanently, you can also select the program or its icon and then press delete key after holding the shift key. It will delete the program permanently from the computer memory.
Few applications, files or programs do not get deleted permanently because their temporary files still remain in computer’s memory. For this, you should always clear your recycle bin and keep it empty. Similarly, temporary internet files folder should also be kept empty. In order to delete any file or folder permanently, you can use the key combination of Shift & Delete but remember, deleting does not mean uninstalling. Follow the above mentioned process with enough patience so as to avoid any inconsistencies in the system state at a later point of time.
