To know how to manage SkyDrive, it is first essential to understand what exactly it is. This is basically a service which allows users to synchronize and upload files to cloud storage and later, they can access the same from any local device or any web browser. It is a patent of Microsoft. As far as storage capacity is considered, it offers 7GB of data storage for new users and the rest of the additional usage depends on your purchase.
The need of synchronizing Outlook data on SkyDrive generally arises when one has multiple accounts. If you have an account in Gmail, Outlook, etc., and you use it on multiple computers, then you need to install an individual copy of each e-mail client software on individual PC which is a cumbersome process. SkyDrive allows you to synchronize all accounts into one. Let us study the steps involved:
Step 1: Open Run option and open the location of Outlook such as C:\\Users\Appdata\XYZ\Local\Microsoft Outlook. Replace the username with your name. In my case it is XYZ.
Step 2: Then cut the .pst files from inboxes of various mails such as outlook.pst or gmail.pst
Step 3: After this, you should move to the installed SkyDrive directory. Create a new folder here and paste the copied files to a SkyDrive location.
Step 4: After this, open the Outlook interface, it will issue a dialog box saying that the application cannot find outlook. PST. Click on OK and select and navigate the file to brand new SkyDrive location. In the same manner, if you have moved files of other email clients, it will ask you to save them to another location. You can do so as per your requirement and can also continue with this configuration at some later point of time.
Step 5: After this, close Outlook for one more time. Next time when you will open it, all these folders will be set to sync. You can do the same on other computers also. Then, you can delete the .PST files from the original location and you can take them to a newer location on SkyDrive.
One precautionary measure that one should take while doing this is that you should not ever move archive. pst files to the SkyDrive. While keeping this in mind, you can configure your other e-mail accounts on SkyDrive. However, you can also use other backup and storage options like Google drive, etc. but the major advantage which goes in favor of SkyDrive is the amount of free storage space it offers to its new users.
In general, these configuration steps will work but there can be certain flaws or troubleshooting required depending upon the operating system and the version of Microsoft outlook software that you are using.
