With the increasing use of Internet by publishers for making money, the word ‘Plagiarism’ is also getting lot of attention these days especially in the blogosphere. Lot of new publishers who enter the blogosphere with little knowledge & with the intention of making some quick bucks end up writing something which will be either a direct copy or a mixture of articles across the web. This kind of plagiarised content’s across the web can be detected by a powerful online service called ‘Copyscape‘ provided by Indigo Stream Technologies. Copyscape which makes use of the Google Web API returns a list of web pages containing the copies of the input URL content. However, it can’t differentiate between the original & the copied. This will be up to the user to decide. The sole intention of Copyscape is to find the plagiarism across the web. The next part i.e., ‘how to deal with the plagiarised content’ is left to the publisher.
Copyscape comes in two flavours – Free & Premium. Free version of Copyscape imposes a limit on the number searches that you can do per month. The premium version comes without any such limitations & it also provides a ‘copy paste’ search for finding copies of your offline content. For most of the users Free version will be more than enough as it serves the basic purpose ‘the online plagiarism’. Copyscape also provides banners that you can embed in your web pages for giving a word of warning against plagiarising your content.
