Bangalore being the technology hub or the silicon valley of India presents maximum opportunities in the field of software development for engineering graduates from the state of Karnataka and rest of India. As the volume of jobs in bangalore is more compared to other Indian cities, it is a well known fact that every other educated young Indian dreams of having a job in Bangalore after finishing their graduation in Engineering.
Though there is no scarcity of human resources with Engineering degree, companies are still struggling or finding it hard to hire the right resources. This is mainly seems to be because of the ‘Employablity’ factor associated with these human resources. Graduates seem to be lacking some of the core essential skills required for a Job in Software Industry. Keeping the needs of Software development job (which is the first preference for many of the Engineering graduates) and based on my 7+ years of experience in the industry, I have come up with a list of three essential skills which I feel is a essential for a Engineering graduate to grab a good software development job.
Technology skills: Having a liking and passion for technology is a must for a person trying to enter the software development job. Apart from this, the person needs to be strong with one or two programming languages like Java or .Net. As the opportunities in the Java area is more compared to other technologies, it very important to make a well informed decision by keeping both your interest and the market demands in mind.
Communication Skills: Having a good communication skills in English is very important to succeed as a Software Developer. Good Communication skills helps to communicate and collaborate with your colleagues in an effective manner. Also, having good hold on the English language helps one to communicate and co-ordinate effectively with clients/customers from different parts of the hold.
Networking Skills: A person with good networking skills will get to connect with lot of people and will be exposed to more opportunities compared to a person with either no or less networking skills. These opportunities may eventually help him/her to grab the dream job the person is looking for.
