Ever since its launch in 2001, iPhone has been the bread winner of the Cupertino based company. The genius of Steve Jobs lifted the company from debt with the iPhone to make it one of the wealthiest companies not just in the tech-world. However, in the recent times, iPhone sales have plunged and Apple Inc reported that, they have seen decline in sales (13%) for the past 3 consecutive quarters. They are still one of the hottest selling smartphones in the market, and they will be one of the most sought after product among smart phone users. So, after all these years and an increase in the demand for smartphone around the world, why is the sales dropping? Let’s take a look at some of the reasons for the drop in sales.
The reason for the considerable drop in sales is because of the slow upgrade cycle. Which means that, people are not willing to shell out a lot of money to upgrade their phone every single year, when they have a perfectly functioning and usable phone in hand.
It is a well-known fact that iPhones are quite expensive. Several years ago, even people who could not afford the iPhone, shelled out all the money to buy an iPhone, simply because of the fact that cheaper Android phones were not the best performing phones. So instead of buying a cutting edge Android which could be in the same price bracket, people just went for the iPhone. With a great decline in the hardware cost, a lot of good brands like Motorola, Huawei, Asus, and Lenovo are providing killer smartphones for less than half the cost of the latest iPhone. For less than $200, one could get a good smartphone with killer battery life, ample memory, premium features like fingerprint sensor, etc.

iPhone Vs Android
Android devices account of 88% of all the smartphones in the world and Android also dominates the tablets market. This means that the word “Android” has become synonymous with the word “smartphone”. There are a lot of different reasons for people to opt for Android devices over phones. One of the main reasons being, cost along with features such as bigger battery, launchers, themes, and the ability to customize the phone to their liking.
One more reason for the popularity of Android over iPhones is the fact that, Android is open-source. People contribute, and develop and fiddle around with Android custom ROMs and it’s fun for a lot of tech heads out there. For this reason, there is a big community and fan-base for Android who would like to proudly express to world that they are an Android fan with merchandises like t-shirts, keychains, plush toys etc.
Finally, we don’t think that iPhones will be out of the market. There are a lot of loyal Apple fans who genuinely like to buy iPhones for a lot of different reasons and features that it has to offer. However, we also need to conceive the fact that Android which is strongly moving towards claiming 90% of stake in the smartphone market definitely seem to be winning the iPhone Vs Android race.
