Cleanup web pages before printing using Aardvark Firefox extension

By Prasanna LM | Aug 9, 2009

While printing web pages we may like to avoid including few unnecessary things like ads, header & other sidebar stuffs that we usually find in most of the websites or blogs.  I was in search of a tool/software which lets us to print only the required contents of a web page without any glitch. Recently, I stumbled up on a Firefox extension called Aardvark, which helped me to resolve this problem.

Aardvark Firefox plug-in primarily created for web designers and developers can also be used for cleaning up a web page before printing. After the installation is done, you can start the plug-in by right clicking on the page and selecting the ‘Start Aardvark’ option from the menu. Once the plug-in starts, you will start getting a red rectangular frame for each and every element as you move the mouse over the screen. To remove unwanted elements from the web page before giving it for print, you just have to select those items and press the short cut key ‘R’ from the keyboard. This will immediately take out that block from the web page.

The Aardvark Firefox extension which is compatible up to Firefox 3.5 can also be used to view the source code of the elements & thereby to see how a web page is created. The plug-in supports around 14 keyboard shortcuts, the details regarding which can be found from its official web page.
