ProjectWonderful – is it really wonderful ?

By Prasanna LM | Jul 13, 2008

When you visit some of the blogs, you might have noticed few ads served by ProjectWonderful (PW). Even I have also placed one on my sidebar. When we compare PW with the other ad networks, pwlogoit is undoubtedly one of the unique & innovative ad networking service. In an era dominated by Google Adsense, except few, most of the Adsense alternatives available in the market have almost failed to compete against Adsense. Adsense publisher policy can also be one of the reasons for the failure of its alternatives. As per  Adsense policy, publishers are not allowed to use  Google Adsense along with the other Ad networks that deliver ads based on the content of the site. As the main source of income for most of the publishers is Adsense, not many will be ready to give-up Adsense just for the sake of trying a completely new content based ad network. So, Companies are coming with ad networks that can be used by publishers along with the traditional Adsense. ProjectWonderful is one such ad serving program, which allows the publishers to use any other ad network along with it.

Advantages of PW over other Ad networks

1) Unlike CPC (Cost per Click) Ad networks which pays the publishers only when there is a click, PW relies on a model called CPD (Cost per Day), where the publishers get paid daily irrespective of the clicks. This model doesn’t provide any room for fraudulent clicks. This can be a great relief for the advertisers.

2) Advertisers can select blogs of their choice based on different criteria’s like page views, site name, tags & bid value. On other hand, publishers can also choose to disable certain ads if they feel irrelevant.

3) Boosts the confidence level of the amateur publishers by giving them an opportunity to earn even with their little traffic.  Though the amount of money they can earn is small, they might not be in a position to make even this small amount of money with other ad networks.

4) The ad space of the Publisher will be put in an infinite auction. So, always an ad with highest bid will be displayed on the page.

5) Publishers can instantly withdraw their money without any pain to their PayPal account once their earning reaches $10. They can also utilize that money for their advertising needs, if required.

Whatz wrong with PW & how it can be improved

1) Though they have a powerful concept, they seem to have failed in marketing their product. Many in the advertiser & publisher community are not aware of this ad network. Just like their main concept, they need to come with some innovative marketing strategies to take this product to a larger audience.

2) Most of the advertisers in the PW network are start-up bloggers. They may not be in a position to spend more money on advertisement. As a result, the quality of ads served on the network will also be of low quality. This can compel lot of professional bloggers & other quality publishers to stay away from the network. This can be avoided by bringing in more quality advertisers to the network, which can add more value to the publishers.

3) By default, anybody, even a non registered user can view the page views & some other statistics of the sites in PW network. This may prevent some publishers from joining the network. The stats should be made available only to either registered users or registered advertisers.

4) The existing process involved in creating a new ad unit is bit confusing for the new bees.  The process can be made simpler by taking out some of the unwanted options.

Is it Wonderful?

Well, in my view, the innovative concept of infinite auction model is really wonderful. But, the PW team seems to be not completely successful in implementing their concept. Still, they can make it wonderful by increasing the quality of advertisers & publishers in their pool through innovative marketing strategies.

I am forwarding this post to ProjectWonderful team. Let’s see how they react. In the mean time, if you are also using this service please feel free to share your thoughts.

Thanks for the information. I’ve seen the ads on a couple sites, but have only briefly looked at their site, and left undecided. That’s a great balanced review you have, and I’ll have to give Project Wonderful a more in-depth look.

An excellent post. We use PW on another blog of and it seems to being paying $$$$ off. Yeah!
The quality of ads can be bad, but PW lets you instantly punt any ad that may not be up to your site’s standards.

Thanks for writing the piece. I will be interested to see what PW has to say.

A referral program, to refer both Publishers and Advertisers may help a lot in promoting PW.

So far they only give me pennies lol but I guess it’s better than nothing for small blogs

I’m both ad advertiser on PW, and a publisher there. I use my profits to pay for the cost of ads. Works out very well for me.

We can see lot of small advertisers around PW ads because their ad system allows advertisers to bid for a minimal amount.
PW is an Ad Network that also accepts publishers for small guys in online advertising.
For small blogs, this is a great way to start and I think it is much better than using Google adsense.

I’ve been using PW as both publisher and advertiser and it’s working OK for me. I’ve reached an stage where I can sustain a network of ads running paying off my earnings, and at the same time whithdraw money 3-4 times a month.

I heard of PW before but never really take the time to look at it and your article kind of remind me of it again. Perhaps I should have a second thought about it.

    Thanks for the article.

Concept is very clean and cool as compared to Adsense but i shall like ot know more about CPD. What is it actually and how it works. Shockingly this is the first blog where i read about them, they should advertise it on large scale. Finally those setbacks which you have explained already, I think they are worst then anyone else. I am shocked to know that someone can access someone’s other stats anonymously.

  14. Nishadha July 25, 2008 5:19 pm

I haven’t tried it but I have seeing many posts complaining about low payments. But it is a good place for advertisers though.

  15. Pras July 25, 2008 10:49 pm

@Violin, CPD stands for Cost Per Day. Here (In PW), the publishers ad space will be put in an infinite auction model. So, always an ad with highest bid will be displayed. While bidding, the advertisers need to specify how much they can pay for the publisher per day.The advertisers can either modify or cancel their bid at any time. They will only pay for the time during which their bid was higher. You can find more information about this model at http://www.projectwonderful.com/abouttheinfiniteauction.php

I abandoned adsense a long time ago. CPC for smaller sites just does not work. I’ve been making a litte money with ProjectWonderful and TLA.

Is anyone with less than 10,000 hits per week making any money with CPC or Adsense?

  20. SEO Consultant September 17, 2008 12:38 am

Never heard of such ad network, but it is interesting to try out their CPD concept. Thanks for sharing. Rif Chia

i’ve come across project wonderful ads and conversations in other blogs. what catches my attention is the fact that they pay per day, and the much lower minimum payout. i’ll have to take a look at this. i hope they thrive so bloggers will have even more ad options.

  22. Dilson Decano October 6, 2008 2:08 pm

PW rejected my PR1 blog and I dont know why, they rejected my blog? :(

  23. Armen Shirvanian October 15, 2008 4:56 am

A creation with the name ProjectWonderful will have to provide much value to not disappoint its consumers. However, it is more fitting for an advertising service as it gives off a warm feeling to those who might choose to use it. It is beneficial the publishers can withdraw their money at any time after $10 has been earned, which backs up the reliability of the company.

Finally I put it on my blog as well… Just giving away free ad space via project wonderful to begin wtih :)

I used Project Wonderful for a couple of months then decided to take down the widget. I still prefer to stick with AdSense.

Don’t know much about Project wonderful, may give it a try on our blog. We just use adsense.
But Project Wonderful does sound interesting.
